The Client
Balancing Bookkeeper - known as BBKC - is a Canberra-based bookkeeping and BAS agency with a big personality. Founded by Amanda, BBK helps Australian small businesses and not-for-profits stay organised, compliant, and stress-free - handling everything from account reconciliation and payroll to BAS lodgement, board reporting, and ongoing financial accountability.
What makes BBKC different isn't the services - it's the people. Amanda and her team bring genuine warmth, humour, and a refreshingly human approach to an industry that can feel dry and intimidating. They believe bookkeeping doesn't have to be a headache. Done right, with the right team, it can actually be enjoyable - and their clients agree.
BBKC was an established business with a loyal client base and a clear sense of who they were. The brand just hadn't caught up yet.
The Challenge
BBKC came to The Design Cure not as a new business, but as an established one with a problem: their brand didn't reflect their personality. The visual identity, the website, the tone - none of it captured the energy, warmth, and gentle cheekiness that made BBK genuinely different from every other bookkeeper in Canberra.
The result was a disconnect between the business Amanda had built and the clients it was attracting. Without a brand that communicated who BBK really was, enquiries came in from all directions - not always from the right-fit clients who understood the BBK approach and were on the same wavelength.
Amanda needed a complete rebrand - not a tweak, but a fresh start - one that would do two things at once: represent the business authentically, and act as a filter, drawing in clients who got it and quietly repelling those who didn't.
The Approach
The Design Cure delivered a full rebrand and digital overhaul - building a completely new brand world around BBKC's existing personality, and then giving Amanda the tools to manage her own marketing confidently from day one.
Brand Identity
BBKC needed a brand that felt modern, fresh, and a little bit cheeky - one that signalled professionalism without the stuffiness, and personality without sacrificing credibility.
Full custom brand identity - built from the ground up, not adapted from anything that came before
Logo design and variations - including the distinctive circular mark and icon suite
Colour palette - the bold yellow and black combination that sets BBK apart in a sea of safe, corporate navy
Typography system - selected to balance personality with professionalism
Brand guidelines covering all usage, tone, and application rules
Canva account setup - branded templates loaded and ready for Amanda to use independently
Email signatures - designed and set up across the team for a consistent, polished first impression
Brand elements and iconography - including the signature smiley face that runs through the brand's visual language
Tagline & Tone of Voice
Getting the tone right was everything for this project. BBKC's point of difference lives entirely in how they communicate - and that needed to be captured in writing before a single page was built.
Tagline development - landing on "We'll keep your books, you keep your cool" - a line that does exactly what the brand needed: warm, memorable, and immediately communicates the BBK promise
Tone of voice guidelines - defining how BBKC sounds: direct, friendly, a little cheeky, and always reassuring
Messaging framework - clarifying how to talk about services in a way that feels like BBKC, not like every other bookkeeper
Copywriting & Website
Every word on the BBK website was written by The Design Cure - from the homepage headline through to the services pages, the about sections, the newsletter sign-up, and the legal pages.
All website copy - written in BBK's voice throughout, balancing personality with the compliance and credibility cues a professional services client needs to see
Services pages - covering account reconciliation, BAS and IAS, payroll management, board reporting, finance accountability, and bills management
About pages - Our Story, Our Values, and Our Team - written to bring Amanda and the team to life
Not-for-profit and GST-registered client pages - tailored messaging for BBKC's two key audience segments
FAQ, resources, and articles pages
Legal pages - terms of service, privacy policy, and website terms - written to cover the necessary ground without losing the brand voice
Newsletter copy - capturing the "email gold" personality that runs through BBKC's client communications
Website Design & Build
The Squarespace website was designed to do the heavy lifting - attracting the right clients, setting clear expectations, and communicating BBK's personality from the very first scroll.
Full Squarespace website design and build
Navigation: About Us, Services, Testimonials, Resources, Articles, Contact
Service pages for both key client segments - not-for-profit organisations and GST-registered businesses
Testimonials page - structured to let existing clients do the selling
Resources and articles sections - built to support Amanda's content and thought leadership
Contact page - designed to start the right conversations
Social Media Strategy & Templates
Rather than managing BBK's social media on an ongoing basis, The Design Cure built a system that Amanda could run herself - independently, confidently, and on brand.
Social media strategy - platform direction, content pillars, and posting cadence
Branded Canva templates - a full suite of ready-to-use social media templates loaded into BBK's Canva account
Content guidance - direction on tone, topics, and how to show up consistently without it becoming a burden
The result: Amanda manages all social content in-house, saving on ongoing agency costs while maintaining a consistent, on-brand presence
The Outcome
The rebrand changed everything - not by reinventing BBKC, but by making the outside match the inside.
The new brand and website now do the marketing for Amanda. Enquiries come in from clients who already get it - who've read the website, understood the BBK approach, and arrived pre-sold on the personality and the service. The brand filters as much as it attracts, meaning the team spends less time managing mismatched expectations and more time doing great work for the right clients.
Amanda's own words say it best: "It feels like home now."
Social media is handled entirely in-house, with branded templates and a clear strategy meaning Amanda and the team can show up consistently without needing ongoing agency support. The Canva setup means the brand stays on point regardless of who's creating the content.
This project is a strong example of what the right brand can do for an established business - not just look better, but work harder. A rebrand that attracts the right clients, repels the wrong ones, and gives a founder the confidence to market their business without needing someone else in the room.
